Hey everyone, it's your host Paul back with another episode of the SEO Knowledge Bomb podcast. Today I had the privilege of interviewing Daniel Cheung, an SEO rockstar who recently landed a job as SEO Manager at Adobe.

Daniel shared so many valuable insights, but let me break down the key takeaways for you all.

First, Daniel gave us the backstory on how he got into SEO just 5 years ago. He started out as a wedding photographer for 10 years before making the switch! Daniel landed his first SEO job by reaching out to an agency founder he knew and selling himself, despite having very little experience.

So key takeaway #1 - put yourself out there and be confident even if you're just starting out. SEO is a learnable skill.

In that first SEO job, Daniel soaked up knowledge from online courses like the SEO Blueprint and the Affiliate Lab. This taught him the tactical side of doing SEO. But the SEO MBA course opened his mind to communicating and sharing his knowledge with others.

Takeaway #2 - invest in your education. Read, take courses, and learn by doing. But also focus on how to teach others what you know.

After building up some SEO skills, Daniel's big breakthrough came in the last few months when he focused on building his personal brand on LinkedIn.

He grew his followers from around 1500 to nearly 8000 in just 11 weeks! Daniel credits consistently sharing actionable advice and insights from his own experience. He chose a "pillar" or specific topic to start positioning himself as an expert in - which was schema markup.

Key takeaway #3 - choose a specialty and share practical, how-to advice consistently. Don't just post concepts, get into the tactics.

Daniel also recommends using visual posts like carousels to get more engagement. And ask people directly to engage - comment, share, etc. The call to action makes a difference!

Takeaway #4 - use visuals and CTAs to drive engagement. Don't just count on the algorithm.

Posting at peak times for your target audience matters too. Daniel found success posting on weekends, targeting Europe and India.

Takeaway #5 - test and find the best times/days to reach your audience.

In terms of managing the personal brand building alongside a full-time job, Daniel admits he doesn't plan content extensively. He keeps a running list of ideas and makes posts when he has time on weekends.

Takeaway #6 - you don't need to overthink or overplan your content. Stay flexible and make time when you can.

Beyond growing his personal brand, Daniel shared great insights on excelling in a new SEO job.

He recommends really taking the time to absorb as much as you can in the first 90 days on the job. Learn the organization, the goals, the culture. Ask questions rather thanmake recommendations right away.

Key takeaway #7 - listen and learn before pushing your ideas. Build trust and credibility first.

In terms of working cross-functionally, Daniel views SEO not in a silo, but as integrated with other marketing channels. The goal is ultimately driving business results, not just rankings.

Takeaway #8 - collaborate with other marketing teams. Figure out how SEO can amplify and support the success of campaigns across channels.

And finally, Daniel's advice to those looking to get into SEO is simple - just do it! There are so many opportunities in SEO right now. The most important thing is understanding human psychology and what people are really looking for when they search. Solve that, and you'll go far.

Whew, that was a lot of gold from Daniel! Let me know which takeaway resonated most with you. Feel free to shoot me a message on LinkedIn or Twitter @seoknowledgebomb. I'll see you next week for more SEO knowledge bombs!
