Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of my SEO Knowledge Bomb podcast! In this episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Vasco Monteiro, an SEO expert and entrepreneur who founded Vetted, an SEO marketplace connecting buyers and sellers.

Vasco shared so many golden nuggets in our chat that I wanted to recap some of the key takeaways for you all.

First off, when I asked Vasco how he consistently ranks on page one of Google, his answer was simple - test, test, and test some more! He explained that different strategies work for different niches and locations, so the key is relentless testing and tracking of what works and what doesn't for your specific situation. I love this advice, as it reminds us that there are no universal shortcuts in SEO - you've got to put in the work to find out what moves the needle for your sites and campaigns.

Next, we dove into Vasco's origin story in SEO. He told me his journey began back in 2015 after coming across some of Alex Becker's content on the "rank and rent" business model. This opened Vasco's eyes to the money-making potential of ranking sites and renting them out to businesses who need the visibility.

From there, he was hooked on SEO and set out to build his own Portuguese rank and rent business, starting with a site for dentists. The rest is history! Vasco emphasized surround yourself with people smarter than yourself if you want to excel in SEO - wise words.

When discussing strategies for reverse engineering what makes certain sites thrive in SEO, Vasco had some great insights. He looks at where the site gets its traffic from to ascertain if SEO is a major driver. Then he digs into the site architecture and specific pages driving organic search traffic.

Tools like Ahrefs, Semrush and SimilarWeb help provide data on competitors' keywords, backlinks and other intelligence. But Vasco warned not to rely too heavily on tools alone - you need to immerse yourself in the site and niche, thinking from the perspective of potential customers.

Moving on to Vasco's SEO business vetted.com, he explained it originated to solve some of the transparency issues he observed with other freelance marketplaces. On Vetted, all providers have to show their face and credentials, offer samples of past work, and demonstrate SEO expertise. This builds trust.

I appreciated Vasco's advice that when launching a marketplace startup, you should begin by onboarding providers who already have an audience they can market to. This helps kickstart the chicken-and-egg cycle of getting both buyers and sellers onboard. Vetted is off to a great start with this strategy.

Besides running the SEO services marketplace, Vasco has also developed some interesting software tools, like CampaignsCafe and JournalistCafe. He graciously offered our listeners an exclusive one month free trial of CampaignsCafe to track rankings and backlinks. Just visit campaigns.cafe and Vasco will hook you up.

Looking to the future, Vasco is very bullish on directory and marketplace websites, believing they will become an increasingly core part of many businesses. To enable anyone to launch their own directory, his team created Onlinedir, a powerful SaaS platform for creating niche directories, which you can learn more about at onlinedir.co.

Wrapping up, I asked Vasco for his best advice for those looking to get started and excel in SEO. He emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with knowledgeable people you can learn from, picking a niche, and simply diving in to start testing and tracking real campaigns. There are no shortcuts - you've got to put in the hard work!

That's a quick recap of some of my biggest takeaways from chatting with Vasco Monteiro. He's clearly an insightful expert when it comes to SEO, online business, and marketing. Thanks again to Vasco for coming on the show - I'm sure our audience got a lot of value from his wisdom.

I hope you enjoyed this episode! If you did, make sure to subscribe to the podcast and share it with an SEO friend or colleague you think could benefit. I'll be back again next week with another search marketing knowledge bomb. See you then!
